“Bush to Cede Power to VP During Colonoscopy”

There are so many things wrong with this headline from an Associated Press article published earlier today. My problem isn’t with the words in the headline, but what those words are telling me.
First, I published a post about Dick Cheney and his negative and questionable personal and political brand last month. Knowing that he will be in charge of the country for even a minute is disturbing. His branding has really hurt him in the eye of public opinion in recent months.
Second, this is a perfect example of too much information. I understand that US citizens have a right to know what’s going on with our President, but do I need all the details about the procedures the President Bush will be going through during his colonoscopy? Read the AP article. It’s a bit too detailed for me. Not only has Bush’s approval rating been declining, but now his personal brand has to take a hit with details of a very personal medical procedure being publicized for the world to see.
I can only imagine what this bit of news will invoke on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, The Colbert Report or even Lil’ Bush.

This one had my rolling:
Dr. Checks Presidents’ ‘Bum’…Finds Head and Bin Laden

People have the right to know when the President is not able to perform his duties; but, I don’t think the US will end in this short of a time period. This much publicity does let our enemies know that they have a free reign when Cheney is sitting in the seat of power.
Thanks for sharing the link, Heather. Funny!
Good point, Carol. Too much publicity can do damage.
