Business Blogging Ethics: Don’t Steal!! Pt. 2

June 5, 2008 by Liz Fuller

(www.businessandblogging.com) The other day I wrote a post about a spam blog (splog) that was routinely scraping the content here at Business and Blogging and putting it on their own site with no reference back to us.   I just checked, and they are still stealing our posts – including the one in which I complained about them stealing (you have to laugh!)

Laura and I are being more diligent about manually putting a link back to our site as the head of the post.  So anyone who reads the article can find their way back to our site for more content.

If you are writing a business blog and want to protect your articles you can:

  • manually put a link back to your site at the beginning and/or end of your post
  • use a wordpress plugin such as RSSFooter- which allows you to put a signature line at the beginning or end of your post in your RSS feed. (Personally I recommend putting it at the beginning as I have noticed many scrapers don’t use the full article)

(Thanks to Robert Hruzeck of Middle Zone Musings for the plug-in tip!!)

  1. Glad I could help! Also glad to see it works – I might want to do something similar for the Middle Zone.
