Business Marketing Monday: Branding Your Own Name

The artistic Kristen wrote an insightful post the other day on personal branding and the importance of it. Very well written, very thought-provoking. One of the things that I found most useful is Kristen’s suggestion on finding that niche for yourself and making your name absolutely synonymous with it. Kind of like the Kentucky Fried Chicken man and the southern gentleman with the white beard. The two just go hand in hand.
What is/are your personal branding techniques? Have you found one yet? Are you searching? Or you will wait for that dreadful moment when your name becomes synonymous with something **other** than what you’d like?
What are you waiting for? Start branding!

I just now read Kristen’s post- and loved it! I’m very fortunate to have a rare name- if I do a google search for “Bertie Ranger” I’m normally the only person that comes up- except for an occasional “Bertie Edward Ranger” – whoever that is- but he is a knight or a king or something so it is ok- I guess:)
I am trying to brand my name with fitness and healthy life-styles and just enjoying life in general with lots of fun and positivity.
I’m going to follow Kristen’s advice and start branding better:) Thanks!!
Bertie
Over the 10+ years that I’ve been making my living online, my name has become synonymous with ‘turning technical into simple’ (as well as teaching with a very zany sort of humor). Testimonials help towards supporting that rep as does my unique blog voice as well.
When I search for ‘Barbara Ling’, sometimes I come up with the set designer for Batman and Robin. :)
