Always stay on the lookout for potential business and be ready to fill a need. Businesses that fill a particular niche or that cater to a certain market segment usually benefit the most from this since their markets will seek out what tehy need. Niche-filling works especially well for service-oriented businesses and personal services.

Do you have a cleaning business? Offer your services to the other parents at the soccer field. Pass out your business cards or brochures and let them know you’re available.

What about a portable dinner service? Put your flyer on the outside of mailboxes in your neighborhood letting them know what meals you offer and your delivery times. To target busy families, post flyers at premium times of the year:

The beginning of the school season
Holiday season (Thanksgiving through New Year’s)
Summer months

To fill a niche market, analyze your business and what you can do or offer to your customers that will make a difference to them. If you can answer that, you’ve found your niche and a market that will always need what you’ve got, providing that you offer excellent customer service.
