Buying Workout Equipment

We’ve all seen the ads on TV and probably mulled over the thought of buying the home gym version of the GREATEST MACHINE EVER!, but buying workout equipment to get in shape inside your house isn’t a good idea for most people.

First, your house is a place for you to relax. This is both a common conception and something you should be able to rely on. So it’s unlikely you’re going to turn into the Ultimate Warrior from intense workouts in your living room.
Second, and related to #1 is your house really isn’t made from working out. Unless you live extravagantly, there probably isn’t a great deal of open space insider your house. It’s better that you workout without limitations in your movement than where you are restricted. An extreme example is running in place vs. running outside. Both involve the same motion, but the physical and mental benefits are much greater outside.
Third, most home equipment goes unused and ends up taking your valuable space. You may end up getting a few good workouts in, but ultimately your pull up machine probably gets taken down from the door frame and stuffed in your closet. If you have a home gym, I don’t know where that gets stuffed.
Another consideration is the gym has people in it. Being around other people working out is good. It can bring inspiration, competitiveness and/or energy to you. There is something about a bustling gym that gets you going that pushups in your bedroom can’t replace.
I’ll get to my workout today and tomorrow in my next blog.
