Cam Cameron Never Really Had a Chance

I’m fairly certain that I could have coached the Dolphins to a 1-15 record this year. I’m also fairly certain that Bill Parcells would have coached the Dolphins to a 1-15 record as well. It wasn’t a question of motivation, or play-calling, or any other head coaching influenced areas of football. Cam Cameron had exactly one impact player on offense — Ronnie Brown — who was injured early in the season. The previous off-season the Dolphins spent a top ten pick on an injured and unreliable slot receiver/ return man and while trading away one of the league’s best slot receivers / return man within the division for a second round pick. The entire defense, formerly the strong point on the team, began to show their collective age simultaneously. Only Jason Taylor remained remotely as effective as previous seasons. And so, the Dolphins went 1-15 and hired the man of diminishing returns, Bill Parcells, who last won a Super Bowl when I was 4 years old. Of course, Cam Cameron was fired today.
This is Bill Parcells MO. He goes to a team that has nowhere to go but up, brings in his people, posts marginal improvement, gets a lot of credit, then leaves before it gets bad again. So be prepared to call Bill Parcells a genius when the Dolphins are 6-10 next year.
