Can a Twitter Avalanche Help Businesses?

Are you an Ashton or an Oprah who can cause what I call a Twitter Avalanche of followers just by sharing your username? Can a Twitter avalanche help business owners? What can cause a Twitter avalanche? These are questions that have crossed my mind. In the past few weeks, we have seen how many celebrities have found Twitter and used it to obtain followers. Is this just another “popularity contest” or do the celebrity Tweeters really want to connect with their followers?

It makes one wonder if the power of Twitter is being abused or if it is a genuine way of wanting to connect with followers. I’m not a naysayer when it comes to gaining followers because I love that the number of my followers are increasing. I do though want to encourage people not to just “get followers” but to try and give something of value to your followers such as building a relationship or sharing your knowledge on a regular basis.
What are you doing to create your own Twitter avalanche? During March 2009, I held 50+ interviews within 10 days via Twitter with industry experts and business owners who shared their knowledge with me and my followers. It was a great opportunity to not only gain followers but to connect with some really great people. From this event, I created TwitInterviews.com which is a website that I will uses to hold future TwitInterviews. Sign-up for the next round of TwitInterviews is happening now so hop on over to TwitInterviews Interviewee Signup to get in on the experience.
I would like to know how are you as a business owner are using Twitter to create your own avalanche of new users? Please share your experience so others can learn from you.
