Can Missouri Go All the Way in 2008?

The BCS is a fickle mistress. Let’s just say that after this past season, Missouri has some serious blue balls. DENIED. The question is – in 2008 will they go all the way?

I’m not the hugest Missouri fan in the world…but damn, they have 2008 potential. Here’s why:

  • Their schedule is juuuuust right. Not to hot, not to cold, but just right – that’s how I’d describe Missouri’s 2008 schedule. Last season, Hawaii proved to us that having a schedule that’s too easy is no way to rise in the ranks. Likewise, Notre Dame showed us that having a schedule that is too hard is a good way to become a laughingstock. Missouri’s schedule is perfect for their skill level. They have some easy games and some tough games, but there are none that I’d say they definitely lose. That’s what a good schedule is all about.
  • The dynamic duo is back. While Arkansas lost there McFadden-Jones team to the draft, Missouri went the other way. Senior quarterback Chase Daniel and senior wide receiver Jeremy Maclin both are returning in 2008, along with a ton of other awesome offensive players. At Rivals.com, they’re predicting that both players could have a shot at the 2008 Heisman.
  • They start out with some easy games and lead into harder games. We’ve seen that the BCS rewards big end of the season games. Missouri’s schedule allows them to easy into the season with some wins, gain a bit of momentum, and be prepared to crush teams like Texas and Oklahoma.

So is the National Championship game calling Missouri’s name in 2008? Yes, I think so. Keep in mind, though, that last season, everyone thought USC would go undefeated, and that didn’t work out so well. In college football, anything can happen!
