Can Raw Deliver On The Hype?
There is a definite buzz in the air leading up to tonight’s Raw. The show will feature what has been billed a one night only reunion of DX who will face off with Umaga and Randy Orton in the night’s Main Event. The show will also feature Stone Cold’s return to TV, at least for a night, as he confronts Santino Marella who has been mocking him on the show to build up his return. The only question now is can Raw deliver?
In my eyes the show (and the entire product) has needed revamped for some time and the reunion of DX and return of Stone Cold just might do it. The only problem is keeping this buzz going long term. With Stone Cold unlikely to be back full-time and DX’s return a one night only affair one has to wonder why the WWE doesn’t keep them on the air at least through the end of 2007. The last time Raw felt fresh was the return of DX last year and this time it feels much the same.
While HBK and Triple H have singles matches awaiting at Survivor Series it’s not unreasonable to feel they’re going to reunite for the long term. Injuries have plagued Raw and SmackDown and with two of their top names back from lengthy recoveries what better way to resurrect the show than to pair them up yet again. Shawn Michaels is known to save shows and PPVs and now he and Triple H have a chance to boost Raw back to its premiere status.
