Canadian Social Network Launches

Given Facebook’s success in Canada, you’d think that there wouldn’t be much room left for a new player. But Belleville, Ont.-based MyMuchmor is hoping to carve out a market niche with a new social network mostly aimed at new Canadians.

“MyMuchmor is FREE to join and firmly puts you, the user in charge of your profiles and groups you create. As a registered member you can control who views your profile, who joins the groups you create or views your videos, photos or reads your blog. So you can feel safe and rest assured that only people YOU choose can network with you.

Mymuchmore is an offshoot of Muchmor Media, which published a free online magazine focus on people who are moving to Canada or thinking about it.

Not to be overly critical but I’m always curious whether new online players entering ultra-competitive markets can establish a viable business by focusing on a niche market. Perhaps the answer is Web-based services these days are fairly inexpensive to build so you can “get away” with a smaller user base and still create a nice, if not overly lucrative, business.
