Can’t be a jerk no more….
Well, I can. But you can’t. Why? Cause I’m willing to stand by my jerkiness (and so is this guy)
OK, I’m being a bit factious here. (It’s the witching hour as I write this, when all the social networkers come out to play and I may be a bit punchy).
Basically, if there us one thing social media has made it difficult to do, it’s be covert.
At a recent Third Tuesday Vancouver, Joe Solomon spoke about “Social Media for Social Change” and my favourite comment (paraphrasing was) “if you’re not genuine, what do you want me to do about it?! That’s not my problem: be authentic!” And he’s right. If you’re not going to be truthful, you take your chances – especially now and on the net.
From large or small corporations who blog, companies who concocted fake or manipulating campaigns (Sony Playstation, Walmart), CEOs who respond to customer complaints, people who are publicly (and virally) shown to be plagiarizing or even criminals caught by those online all have seen the power of the internet to right a wrong.
Like lying? Offline works better for that. Online? Not so much.

I’ll comment on my own post. Yeah, how cool is that?!
Currently, the link above isn’t connecting, so click here – for Me Like the Interweb (social media) and here for Your Dose of Lunacy (humour).
Dude, word up. You have to be a compulsive liar with some pretty mad spreadsheet skilz to successfully maintain any level of falsity anymore. I can barely get my LAUNDRY put away in an orderly fashion. *sigh*
Colleen:
The Great Blog Off got me cruising around sites I’ve been meaning to visit more often – like yours. Great stuff. I think jerkiness is completely underrated… at least those of us with a zenlike understanding of our roles as jerks in the cosmos… (or being jerks to those who drink cosmos). One must be aware and at peace with their jerkiness. Be in touch with their inner jerk.
