Capitalizing Astronomical Terms
I’m constantly having to look up whether or not to capitalize something when I’m writing blog posts. Did you know:
- You DON’T capitalize earth, moon, and sun UNLESS they appear in a sentence that refers to other astronomical bodies. For example: The sun is a star. Venus and Earth differ significantly in their composition. The earth is a planet.
- You don’t capitalize the season names, unless it is part of a proper noun. That one I just learned as I wrote my previous post.
- You DO capitalize the names of galaxies, constellations, stars and planets and their satellites (except, of course, in the first case above).
GAAAA!
Don’t you love the english language? (hmmm, do I capitalize English or not?) Oh sure, i know the Answer, let’s see if You do (how many capitalization errors were in that last sentence?).
