Carbon Neutral Web Hosting
I know. This isn’t really driving related, but go with me…
Darren at Problogger is asking folks what hosting companies they use for blogging, and how different companies are working out. (I love b5, and Eco Friendly Driver, but may be starting new projects in the future.) I was happily surprised when I saw in the comments section, Ari Koinuma (of Our Best Version) mention a host that is powered 100% by renewable energy. Hazaa, my friends! And there you have the tie-in:
Their smallest plan is 2 GB of space, and 50 GB of bandwidth per month for $7.95. I’d say that’s affordable for carbon neutral hosting.
And if you have your own strong opinions on the topic, head over to Problogger and let it all out.

Thank you for the link! I’ve been very happy with Acorn Host. They’ve been reliable, affordable and they have all the features you’d expect from a host, from the latest version of cPanel to PHP/MySQL to Ruby on Rails (I’m not doing anything with RoR, but I’d like to play with it someday…).
I highly recommend it.

I think that carbon neutral is good but are they off setting there office or their data center also. We at graymatterhost.com have a 100% solar powered data center. The data center is where the servers live. This is where most of the power is consumed with a hosting company. I don’t know Acorn but it is good to know that more and more people are trying to have green web sites. It take everyone just doing a little to make a real difference in the world.
