Carbs Are NOT The Enemy!

carbtriangle.gifO.K., So we have heard of it a million times. The “No-Carb” diet. You cut out all carbs from your diet and lose weight at a reasonable rate. Works, Right? Right, it does work. Is it healthy? Not really. While you are losing weight, your also losing essential vitamins, nutrients, fats and sugars that your body needs. Since you are robbing your body of all of these important energy sources, your body turns to alternative fuel sources, muscle. Your body will break down muscle for fuel. So your losing weight in fat and muscle so the pounds are coming off but not in a healthy fashion.

Carbohydrates are also partially responsible for protein synthesis. If you decide to diet it is wise to cut down on carbs but don’t cut out carbs. It’s not necessary. With the right diet and exercise plan you can lose weight the healthy way while enjoying alternative sources of carbs. Instead of the refined sugar snacks try indulging in fruits and nuts. Fruits are healthy sources of simple sugars, vitamins and antioxidants. Nuts provide fiber antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids.

Carbs are not the enemy, laziness and poor eating habits are the enemy. A little self control and discipline go a long way.
