Celebrate 85 years with Rand McNally … and win!

* Winner Selected, Contest Officially Over * environmentally-friendly road atlas

The GPS is a great invention, but sometimes you take a trip you want to preserve on paper. When we drove to Florida last year, we bought a Rand McNally Road Atlas. Passing through five states in 24 hours can be kind of hard to explain to young kids. Maps made all the difference. ;)

We’re getting ready for another trip this fall and now we’ve got greener options for our recording our family roadtrip adventures. In celebration of providing accurate, helpful information to travelers on the road for 85 years, Rand McNally has given their road atlas a bit of an overhaul. This includes sourcing their paper from forests managed under programs like the Sustainable Forest Initiative, and manufactured without many traditional chemicals, like chlorine.

The guide has much more to offer though, with a variety of fun family roadtrips, hot spots, and state trivia to make planning trips easy, and time spent on the road more fun.

Between now and the 4th of July, you can enter to win one of their 2009 85th Anniversary Rand McNally road atlases. Just let me know where you’re going, or tell me about your favorite family roadtrip from the past. I’ll pick a random winner on July 5th.

More information on the guide, and its online features, at the Rand McNally website.

We’re spending the summer in Western Colorado in a small campground with it’s own private lake. My favorite roadtrip has been the last ten years living in an RV. :) Holla’ Vicki

    Help,I’m lost.

  6. Linda Pinto says:

We are going to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have enough hotel points to save money on rooms although nothing helps on gas. We will enjoy the trip anyway.

  7. Terry Cover says:

Denver and we want to go the scenic, more mountain route.

  8. Hilary says:

Anyone who loves to travel will be sure to drool over Vicki’s website. I would strongly encourage you to click her link. A private lake? That is something the kids and I could really get into.

We’ve been talking about summer vacations because Dennis has a week coming up for expiration. We’re thinking about Silver Dollar City.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Keep the entries coming!

  9. George R. Shively Sr. says:

Been using them for years, always a good product.

  10. Ginger Voight says:

We are a travelin’ family. We love to go to new places and see new things. It’s quite simply one of the funnest ways to get smarter.

My favorite family vacation had to be the one we took over the Thanksgiving holiday last year. My oldest son loves the desert and had long dreamed of exploring Monument Valley. We were only too happy to oblige on our way out from Texas to California. We made a pit stop at Four Corners and have a photograph of each of our family standing in four different states. It was amazing.

I have teenagers and both of them love to keep an atlas in the backseat to know where they’re going and what they’re going to be seeing. So we definitely get “mileage” out of our maps LOL

Recently I was able to go back east and I think for our next family vacation we’re going to head out toward the Carolinas.

  11. Floyd Hickman says:

This summer I’m traveling from Ocala, FL to
Watertown, N.Y. My favorite trip was going from

me see the variety & grandeur of our country

Congratulations Rand McNally on 85 years. I will be traveling from Upstate New York to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my 23 year old son. I need the shortest route, because I really don’t like riding in a car for so many hours. Please help me.

  14. Traveled from N.J. to visit my son at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Md. One of the most beautiful cities and one of the most emotionally patriotic visits one can imagine. Do not miss an opportunity to experience it.

  15. ANNE S says:

Michigan for a birthday party, and maybe Florida for a little while this winter.

  21. Hilary says:

This really does look like the best option. It’s reliable, earth-friendlier and … fairly inexpensive. That’s always good. :p

  22. Nikki Evans says:

We are going to Pennsylvania because my daughter (9) is really interested in the history of our country. This would really come in handy! It will be a nice trip and we will be staying in 4 cities while we are there.

  23. NINA CRESPI says:

The best trip is the MIND trip, composed of playing back fond memories of your fave places.
Having toured Europe 6x, I can easily put my feet up & take myself back to Versailles Palace, Eiffel Tower, Rome’s Spanish Steps, The Vatican, London Bridge, Hyde Park Corner, etc.
Rising gas prices won’t affect THIS trip!

  24. Babalu says:

Coast to coast, NY to Los Angeles. Yeah! Doing the I-40 or I-70, one way. Thanks for the contest. I’d use this for sure.

  25. ethel sperber says:

My daughter and I went on a month long road trip from Florida to the Grand Canyon. We visited 12 different states along the way. We use the RandMcNally road atlas and never got lost. We traveled over 6,000 miles and would never take another road trip without the road atlas. Thanks for getting us there and back . We will share these memories for years to come.

The Gulf Coast is in my plans! and my favorite past trip is a tie between 11 days cruising the Inside Passage of Alaska and 14 days driving around Ireland! I couldn’t possible choose one over the other.
I would love to replace my 20 year old Rand McNally Atlas for which I paid about $80. It would be so nice not to actually have to pay this time around!

  29. Beverly R. Wilson says:

Just came back from the inside passage to Alaska – it was the most enjoyable cruise I have ever taken

  30. Dale R. Lang says:

Planning a trip to New Orleans. Still want to drive, have some Bar-B-Que stops to make on the way. Need a new atlas for the trip. I have worn out I don’t know how many atlases. I need this .

  32. Hetal Gandhi says:

without mcnally I can’t get on the road

  33. cathleen says:

A memorable road trip was taken from Lexington, KY to Chicago, IL. It was a balmy day and traffic was good. Eventually, the bucolic rural scenery of southern Indiana turned into the night sky lit by industrialized factories up north, the transition which I found beautiful.

  34. Zoey Smith says:

We are going to the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. My son is racing in the Camping World Series West race – wish us luck!

  35. dc says:

One of my favorite memories was driving cross-country from Los Angeles to Pennsylvania. One the second day I woke up around 5am and while listening to Philip Glass’s soundtrack to Martin Scorcese’s Kundun (new window) I drove through Colorado just as the sun was rising up over the mountains. Very awe-inspiring.

  36. Richard Hansen says:

Like everyone I’m going to hell if I don’t change my ways. The problem is we all know the way there. What we’re not to sure of is how to stay on the road not going there. We get off it all the time. Got a map tha shows how to stay on it?

  37. Tanya Strickland says:

I am taking my family to Disneyland! Yay! Perhaps, just perhaps, with a stop in Las Vegas on the way…well, maybe in 10 years or so. Thanks!

  38. Kelly Crocker says:

That map can come in handy,my husband travels alot.

we are going to hampton beach nh from vermont :)

  41. Laura Cutshall says:

Shortly after my husband and I married about two years ago, we took in my sister-in-law due to a family crisis, and she’s lived with us ever since. We’ve not had a vacation just between the two of us since we’ve been married! We are both very excited because we found a cabin on the New River to visit in October of this year (just the two of us!) and I’ll be using my OLD Rand McNally altas to get there – unless, of course, we win this one!

Heading down to Fort Walton Beach, Florida from Oklahoma.

  44. Sandra says:

We’re meeting the grandkids at the Alabama gulf shores for a week in a beach house. Looking forward to it

  45. Sandra says:
