Mark Wahlberg first broke into the world of celebrity fame as Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch in the early 90’s, following in the footsteps of his older brother Donnie Wahlberg who got his start in The New Kids ON The Block before moving on to an acting career. Although a career in rap was short lived Mark Wahlberg has come a long way with a bunch of great films under his belt. Some of those films are Disney’s Invincible, Rock Star, Boogie Nights, Four Brothers, and the latest M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening. He’s always in great shape in every role he’s in. So how does he do it? MSN’s Men’s Health had a great article on him. Here are a few excerpts.
“He hits the iron hard, but in the simplest way—30 minutes a day, five days a week. He picks two or three body parts to focus on and works hard and fast. He doesn’t exercise his abs. He doesn’t do any fancy, faddy workouts. He hates cardio: “Running on a treadmill? I’d rather watch a chicken roast.” His workout changes only when work changes it; for example, he played hockey two hours a day for months while filming Four Brothers. (His character is a hockey player.) “Can’t get a better workout than that,” he says.”
This was some of the stuff he did in preparation for The Four Brothers. But what led up to his fitness from his younger days? He spent a short stint in prison when he was 16 and when he got out he states:
“Instead of hanging out on the corner, I’d go to the gym. The gym was in the exact opposite direction from the trouble,” he says. Wahlberg believes there’s a lesson here for all guys—that is, the gym can keep you away from all sorts of negative outcomes. It’s time better spent. “Next thing you know, after the gym, you want to eat,” he says. “Then you’re going home to rest, to shower. Instead of going out all night and getting into trouble, you’re waking up early to go to the gym. It helped me focus.”
Although it was hard to respect Wahlburg after his Marky Mark days, he has established himself as a hard working actor and now father and family man. You have to respect that.

This is interesting. I read where Mark had a hard upbringing – drugs, alcohol, etc. It’s goos to see he broke the mold and did not end up in prison!
heh. Thants good :)
