Cellphone Sonic 2 announced! First Screens!

After the huge success of the first Sonic cellphone game, Sonic Team have announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released as a preinstalled game on the Panasonic P902iS cellphone.
Unfortunately the site also states that it’s not known whether or not this game will be released seperately. Following the deserved success of the first game, which is currently riding high in the mobile games charts, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it get a standalone release. More details and screenshots after the jump…
From what I can tell no release date has been announced as yet, but a date would be useless to you unless you lived in Japan and were planning on buying a Panasonic P902iS… I’ll be keeping an eye on this, so any information regarding a western release will follow here.
The game itself is looking great, perhaps even a little better than the Genesis version. My only gripe is the fact that the viewport seems to have been zoomed in a little too far for my liking. In a game as fast as Sonic 2 it would be handy to see what’s ahead of you, whereas mobile handsets don’t offer such a luxury. Take a look at the screenshots:

It’s looking great so far, let’s hope that Sega give us what we want by releasing it as a seperate game!
Anything else I find out will of course be reported right here. Sonic 2 cellphone – Sonic Channel

You’re kidding us not! Amazing (the game, not the fact you are not kidding us)! Anmy ideas as to what phones it’s compatible with?
Wooo…
Gnome: At the moment it’s only available on that one Panasonic handset to make people buy the phone. I’m sure it’s compatible with many other handsets, but details haven’t been released yet. It hasn’t even been confirmed that the game will actually be released for other phones, but it would make sense to do so after how well the first one did :o)
is e phone using symbian?
Thanks Jonic. That was enlighting…
Usually the way things like this work is that Panasonic will have stumped up a wad of cash for a limited time exclusivity deal to seperarate it from all the other generic phone clones, when this expires the game will go on general release.
@Patrick: I’m not sure, I haven’t seen the specs of the cellphone itself, just the fact that the game will be preinstalled.
Anyone else know the answer to this one?
this was in June 9th, 2006 is there any updated news?
