Chair rentals
I’m not much of an entrepreneurial type…more of an intrapreneur, really. But every once in a while I get these weird ideas that won’t leave my head. I bug my wife and friends about them until I get over it. One of my favorites is a machine that will print photos with a border that contains coupons/advertisements. The deal would be that you’d put these machines in supermarkets, then market “free, one hour photo processing.” The free photos would have either ads around the borders, or a tear-off coupon for in-store use.
Anyway, this time, you are the lucky recipient. How ’bout chair rentals? Not just any chairs, but the nice ones. You know, the ones you drool over in the Levenger catalog, or at Relax The Back, but can’t afford. The ones you look for in Staples and Office Depot, but only find the cheap knockoffs. (I asked Dwayne about it today at lunch, but he kinda panned it…gracefully)
I’d gladly rent a killer office chair…I’m not sure what my price threshold would be, though. I guess I’d consider $30/month, and I’m guessing it’d be a legitimate business deduction for tax purposes. You could charge a little extra for renters insurance and chair upgrades like leather and a headrest. I think wholesale would have to be pretty cheap in order for a company to offer a chair that retails at ~$1,500 for $30/month. Maybe it could be done, though.

You can rent an aeron for $81.50/mo at cort furniture rental…
This is what set dressers for big movies use… or call your local prop house?
Interesting…81 bucks is more than I’d pay, but I can see it working for set dressers (film and theatre). Thanks for the link, Josh!
A focus group of one, Bren?
Remember – I travel about 60-80% of the time, so nice office chairs aren’t that high on my Maslow pyramid.
Sometimes I pay $100 for a better chair for a 5-hour flight (OK, that’s rare but it still happens).
