Chairman of H.E.L.P.
Ted Kennedy has served as the Chairman (or Ranking Democrat) of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee since 1987.
Healthcare: Senator Kennedy has made it a priority to fight so that all Americans will be covered by health insurance. He has worked diligently to improve the health of American children and families by advocating preventative care, lower prescription and medical costs. Over 35 years ago, Senator Kennedy wrote about the shortcomings of the US healthcare system in his book In Critical Condition: The Crisis in America’s Health Care.
Equal Education: Ted Kennedy was a leading proponent and author of the now maligned “No Child Left Behind” program. Kennedy crossed party lines and made compromises to make sure that the legislation that he thought was so vital to the American Education system could make it through Congress. He stands by the programs but laments that the requisite funding has never been applied.
Workers: Senator Kennedy has led the charge for workers’ rights over the last 40 years. He is continuously fighting for quality jobs, at fare wages.
Senator Kennedy has, as evidenced by his record in the Senate and as Chairman on the Health, Education, Labor and Education Committee truly HELPed countless Americans.
