Check for Auto Part Recalls

jonscar.jpgAn online friend of mine is dealing with a major problem. His truck exploded. It seems there was a recall on a part known to cause fires, but he didn’t receive a notice and didn’t have his truck repaired. Insurance is going to pay him the worth of his truck, but if that doesn’t cover the amount he owes, he’s out of luck (luckier than if he’d been in said truck when it kabloomed all over, but still).

Another of our friends is a mechanic who encouraged everyone to check the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) website for issues with our cars, and would you believe it?

- 10 active recalls on parts for our Dodge van!

- 5 on my husband’s car!

It will be interesting to see what the lots say when we try to schedule work for these issues. I’ll keep you up to date. In the meantime, please check the NHTSA website. You can also check for safety recalls on tires, child seats, and other vehicle equipment. Consider it a regular part of seasonal maintenance. These items should be fixed FREE OF CHARGE, though you aren’t guaranteed a replacement vehicle. (I’m bossy, so I’d probably ask anyway. lol) Still, better to be without a car for a day than be stranded or without brakes at the wrong moment, or be out a truck and facing thousands in debt.
