Check Out The New Nintendo DSi

Just a couple days ago, the third generation of Nintendo’s DS handheld gaming systems was released.  All of a sudden, I’m seeing ads and hearing chatter about the new Nintendo DSi everywhere.  I’ve read a few press releases about it and thought I’d recap what I’ve learned.  Check out the following features:

Dual Camera System:  There’s a camera on the external body of the DSi (for taking photos around you) and there is one that is facing the user when it’s flipped open.  Gamers can edit images and add special effects.  You can also move pics from the unit to your computer with an SD card.

Built-In Music Player:  While it is getting some flack for only playing some audio formats, there is a built-in music player allowing gamers to record, mix and listen to music (and even create their own sound effects!).

Web Capabilities:  The DSi comes with a free web browser and you can buy games and applications from the DSi Shop Channel (read more about a special offer!).

Storage:  You can save your games on the internal hard drive but most gamers will want to opt for an external card since space is limited.

Gameboy Virtual Console Rumors:  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using the Virtual Console on my Wii to access games that I enjoyed years ago.  There are rumors floating around that developers are considering introducing something similar for the DSi which would be crazy awesome!  I’d buy one just for that!
