China Goes All CGI on Us With Fireworks?

“Made in China” comes to mind whenever we think of fireworks. Well, all that notion did was get us a bruise under our chin. You know, from when our jaw dropped upon hearing that some of the fireworks from the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics were computer-generated.

Now, it’s a natural reaction to a WTF or two slip, ’cause that’s what happened to us.

Here’s the scoop: The folks at home saw the real deal plus some “special effects” fireworks because filming the whole shebang from helicopters was risky. Supposedly, the spectators in the stadium saw for real what the rest of us thought we saw.

If you’re perplexed, imagine how confused President Bush (aka Beach Volleyball’s Biggest Fan) was when he heard the explanation.

What’s next, gymnasts who perform their routines with the aid of a Wii?
