Chinese Weddings Set for Olympics Opener

The Beijing marriage registration office is predicting that more than 9,000 couples will be getting married on August 2, 2008 which happens to coincide with the opening ceremony of the summer Olympics.
Why are people rushing to the altar on that day? In China, the number eight is linked to prosperity and which date could be better than 8/8/08? The fact that it is also tied to the Olympics just makes it that much more desirable.
