Choosing a Gym

If you are signing up for a gym membership, there are a variety of things that you should check out (besides the cost of the membership and type of equipment). To get the most out of your gym membership, keep these things in mind.
Location
If the gym isn’t conveniently located to your home or office, don’t sign up — no matter how nice it is. You won’t make the trek to the gym regularly if it’s not in a convenient location.
Hours
If you work late or have lot of other commitments, a 24-hour gym might be your best option. Be sure that you know the gym hours before making your decision. Also frequent the gym (on a guest pass or free trial) during the hours you will regularly go. This way, you can get a look at the crowd and clientele.
Cleanliness
Check out the locker room, showers and equipment to see how clean it is. There shouldn’t be dirty towels, trash or anything else lying around. Take a look at the pool or spa to make sure it’s clean too.
Hidden Fees
Beyond the cost of your monthly fees, read the contract to make sure there aren’t any additional fees. Are aerobics, pilates and other classes free to members? Is there a charge for using lockers? Is there a substantial fee if you cancel your contract? As with any type of contract, just be sure you understand it all before signing on the dotted line.
