With only 25 of the 50 angler field fishing on the third and final day, the tournament was still anybody’s to win or loose. After the stage was set, it was the Texas Pro Alton Jones winning the event by taking over Cliff Pace with the final weigh-in of the event. Alton’s third day weight of 13.7 gave him a three day total of 49.7 and the title of the 2008 Bassmaster Classic Champion along with $500,000. The title is Alton’s 1st. After the Classic his BASS earnings total a respectable $1,583,729.10.
Big Bass of the day went to 2008 Elite Series Rookie Clark Rheem with a 5.6 largemouth. Big Bass of the event remained with Fred Roumbanis’s day 2 Hartwell giant at 6.7.
Look for my Classic Thoughts Follow-Up which I will have posted shortly.

Talk about a bad day … on the last day Charlie Hartley dropped from #2 all the way down to 15th. Guess that’ll happen when you only snag a little less than 4 lbs on the biggest day of your career …
Almost forgot … gotta give big props to Alton Jones, though.
I thought for sure that with Van Dam heading into the final day with a solid spot that he’d be money for the money. Guess he didn’t bring his “nuts” …
