Coach Rod’s Henchmen

EDIT: I wrote a bit more on this topic HERE in response to one of your comments!

Check out who is following the new Michigan head coach, Rich Rodriguez, from West Virginia:

  • Calvin McGee, assistant head coach/offensive coordinator
  • Greg Frey, offensive line coach
  • Rod Smith, quarterbacks coach
  • Bruce Tall, safeties coach
  • Tony Gibson, defensive backs coach
  • Mike Barwis, strength and conditioning coach

Before all is said and done, defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel may be heading to Michigan as well.

Are these good moves for Michigan? Personally, I don’t think so. Yes, the coaching staff at West Virginia worked well…but Michigan is not West Virginia.

What are your thoughts on all of these moves?

Barwis is still at WVU, you haven’t stolen him from us yet!

You’re damn right Michigan isn’t WVU, we don’t lose to DI teams like Appy State, we beat teams like GEORGIA and OKLAHOMA. Good luck with that bum Fraudriguez, you’ll like him now but in 2 years you’ll be in the same ranks as Appy State!

i don’t think anyone would dispute the fact that “michigan is not west virginia.” michigan is michigan, and west virginia is west virginia. that same wv just beat oklahoma. why don’t you expand a little and tell us why you are saying what you are saying?

Zeni, according to ESPN, he’s decided to leave as well.

I’ll agree that Michigan is not West Virginia. In the Big 10, offense isn’t exactly at a premium. What I think this does do for Michigan is, two or three years down the road, make them a perennial National Title contender simply because other Big Ten teams can’t defend against the spread offense.

As a Michigan STATE fan, this saddens me.

rich rodriguez is an arrogant as—–! please look at his record. it speaks for its self! he may have gotten excellent football players to morgantown, BUT with the help of assistants no longer there or have remained at home (rick trickett and then bill stewat). he could have easily remained in his home state and done well, except for the fact that he wished to control wvu. well, the powers that be said NO! i hope that you folks in michigan know what you have gotten with this man. you’ll understand what i am saying when he is outcoached so badly that you may lose to someone as bad as pitt or NORTHWESTERN!
