Kirk Ferentz is the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. He was hired in 1998 and now has an annual salary around 3 million dollars. Higher than Jim Tressel of Ohio State and Mack Brown of Texas. Both of those coaches have won national championships this decade.
Kirk’s best years as coach of the Hawkeyes were from 2002-2004. They shared the Big Ten Championship twice during that time span and ended the seasons at 11-2, 10-3, and 10-2. But things haven’t been the same in Iowa City since. They have had a 19-18 record for the past 3 years. Even with this record Kirk’s name had been mentioned in some coaching vacancies in the recent years (i.e. Michigan). Either a) he’s a good coach and the injuries on his team in the recent years aren’t helping matters or b) he’s a pretty good coach and his agent is trying to do his best to make him look like a better one by getting him involved with as many coaching vacancies as possible (i.e. Baltimore Ravens).
