Coding Conferences on both sides of the Straight of Georgia January 26th-RubyCamp & Victoria Code Camp

If you are a coder on either side of The Straight later this month, might be a good idea to clear away the pop cans and coffee mugs and venture out to hang with your fellow coders.  If you’re on my side of The Straight on the 26th there is the Victoria Code Camp:

We’ve already held two code camps (November 2005 and January 2007) and this will be our third, so we’re starting to figure out what it takes. One thing is absolutely certain, we couldn’t run a successful code camp without volunteers from the community. Last year we had almost a dozen volunteers, and this year we’re hoping for at least as many so please don’t be shy. Source: Welcome to the Victoria Code Camp blog : Victoria Code Camp

Nolan left a comment letting me know about it.  I should be able to pop in for at least some of the time that day.  Want to check in on the thriving tech scene here in the Garden City.

Now if you are on the Mainland, and into Ruby (with or without Rails) you might like to visit RubyCamp:

Welcome. You are invited to join us for RubyCamp 2008 in Vancouver on Saturday, January 26th.

RubyCamp is a free one-day gathering for Rubyists and Railers.

When and Where:

WorkSpace in downtown Vancouver, B.C., Canada
January 26th, 2008 from 9:00 to 5:00

Who Should Come:

Anyone who’s interested in Ruby and Rails, whether you’re just interested in learning what this Ruby thing is all about or you know Ruby inside out. Source: Welcome – Join us for Vancouver’s 1st RubyCamp @ WorkSpace on January 26th, 2008 « Vancouver RubyCamp 2008

Since I can’t teleport across the water, going to have to pass on the Vancouver get-together.

What do both these events have in common? They both just affirm my feeling that we have the hottest tech scene in Canada.  Sure, T-Dot and Montreal have cool stuff going one, but I think we’ve really got it going on.

    Thanks for the shout-out!

Look me up if you swing by, I’d love to hear more about what else is going on in town.
