Coffee Break

coffee1-4.jpgI didn’t make it to the Small Business Marketing Unleashed conference in Houston last month so I sure am glad that bloggers who did wrote about their experiences. I found lots of coverage of the conference, but no mention of whether or not they served coffee – so pour yourself a cup and enjoy the following fascinating features!

While at the conference, Mack Collier of Viral Garden did a great interview with WebProNews.  You can see the entire interview on his site.  I particularly liked Mack’s advice to promote your blog by leaving it – interacting with your community on their sites – blogs, myspace, etc. to deepen your engagement.

Wendy Piersall has had phenomenal success with her blog directed at moms who are also work-at-home small business owners.  She rapidly built a strong following around her network blog – emoms @ home.  Last month in response to feedback from her community she expanded the scope of her blog to encompass all work at home business owners and re-named it Sparkplugging.com.

Wendy spoke at the Small Business Marketing Unleashed conference as an expert in Building a Community.

David Wallace at Search Engine Guide did a great job summarizing her presentation and sharing her advice.   Be sure to check out David’s summaries of other presentations as well:

Local Search Workshop

Link Building

And don’t miss Diane Aull’s must-read summary of the Viral Marketing Workshop

As well as Jennifer Laycock’s behind the scenes summary of the event:

Small Business Marketing Unleashed, We Miss You!

That’s your coffee break for this week – hope you enjoyed it!!

  1. Hi Liz! Thank you for this morning’s coffee break! Given the interesting details on the conference, I regret not being there. Oh, well, maybe the time will come when I’ll be able to attend all the events I am interested in :) In the mean time, as you do, I thank God for bloggers covering them.

    Hi Alina
I regret not going as well – it sounds like there was a lot of good info and a lot of fun!

Good luck on your upcoming trip to the US and Canada! Hope you have fun and learn a lot!

Liz thanks for the great recap of Small Business Marketing Unleashed! Sorry you missed it, but the good news is that SEG will have an announcement about the next one very shortly. Hint: Due to the success of the Houston event, the next SBMU will be coming much sooner than originally expected!

  4. Liz,

I’ll echo Mack’s thank you for covering the show. I had no idea what to expect with it being the first conference we’ve ever put on, but we all had a blast. The thing I love about small shows is how quickly the attendees and speakers merge into a mini-community. The Q&A in most sessions turned into discussion among the entire group. Kinda cool. ;)

As Mack mentioned, we should have an announcement about our next event coming out soon.

    Hi Mack

Good news that there might be another one sooner rather than later – I’ll keep an eye out!
    Liz

    Hi Jennifer

I could sense the energy even from the write-ups of the discussions! I guess it makes sense that people who spend their time building communities (i.e. bloggers) would immediately get that involved and form real live in-person communities!!
