I only have one link for you today for your coffee break – it’s the link to the Blog World Expo scheduled for September 20 – 21, 2008. I am focusing exclusively on just this one link because I think it’s that important that you check out the info regarding this conference. According to the site, the conference is aimed at past, present and future bloggers, as well as for businesses who want to interact with bloggers and learn more how about how to take advantage of the opportunities in blogging. (sounds like……everyone???)
I have some fascinating statistics that I picked up from the expo site regarding blogging:
- Over 12 million American adults currently maintain a blog
- More than 147 million Americans use the Internet
- Over 57 million Americns read blogs
- 1.7 million American adults list making money as one of the reasons they blog
- 89% of companies surveyed say they think blogs will be more important in the next five years
- 9% of internet users say they have created blogs
- 6% of the entire US adult population has created a blog
- Technorati is currently tracking over 70 million blogs
- Over 120 thousand blogs are created every day
- There are over 1.4 million new blog posts every day
- 22 of the 100 most popular websites in the world are blogs
- 120,000 new blogs are created every day
- 37% of blog readers began reading blogs in 2005 or 2006
- 51% of blog readers shop online
- Blog readers average 23 hours online each week
Based on your personal experience, how accurate do those statistics feel to you?
(and for even more info – don’t forget to check out the blog world expo’s blog!!)

Thank you for the link Liz. All of those numbers have certainly gone up since we posted them. As of last year’s BlogWorld in November Technorati was tracking over 110 million blogs. That number is event high still today.
The numbers on American’s blog participation are from a Pew Internet study done in July of 06 and another from early 07. We felt their numbers were low but Pew used scientific polling methodology so those numbers are a very good benchmark to start from. Again they are certainly higher today.
Bottom line, the influence of blogs, and their readership continue to grow at exponential rates.
Hi Rick!
Thanks for the support!
