Colts vs. Patriots – an offensive showdown

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Peyton was excellent on Saturday Night Live

Peyton Manning on SNL (AP)Everyone knows that Defense Wins Championships.

It is the common wisdom, but when you break it down there are all kinds of ways to win.

Several years back the Ravens and Ray Lewis proved Defense Wins Championships by winning one with pretty much all defense.

That is not the typical case. Usually your winning teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league.

If Indy gives up 24 points a game, but typically scores 31 points a game, is it bad defense or a case of scoring so quick that the other team is getting more shots to score.

Over the span of Manning’s 10-year career in Indianapolis, the goal has been consistent precision. It’s obvious in the way he plays the role of maestro in the offense, signaling the horns and string and the brass sections. What Manning and the Colts have built is an offense that is the gold standard in terms of consistency in the NFL. source

That is what is going to make this a great game. Indy the Gold Standard and the Patriots high scoring machine.

We have been lucky recently to watch Brett Favre throw the OT Bomb on Monday Night Football and now the marquee match up of the Colts and Pats featuring Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

All three of those quarterbacks are shoo ins for the Hall of Fame. Brett will be there with his fun loving gambling style and 8,000 NFL records, most of those based on longevity and he will probably play long after we pass on.

Peyton will be there, because every time there is a Detroit Lions game on and they interrupt for Colts highlights, Peyton is throwing a long pass and hitting a receiver on a dead run and then they run 30 more yards for a touchdown. My Lions never do that.

Tom Brady will be there because he is so stinking accurate it is beyond belief. Even in college at UM, most fans did not notice how good he was, because he would be dinking and dunking you for 5 straight, 10 straight, even 15 straight passes. Most quarterbacks will make a serious turnover before completing that many plays in a row.

Now with Randy Moss and Stallworth, Brady’s game has gone more vertical and as a Brady fan it is a good thing to see. It finally puts him in the class with Peyton.

Indy vs. New England, it will be an offensive battle.

Now if only during the game they would turn to my Lions and show Jon Kitna throwing a long pass to Calvin Johnson hitting him in dead stride for a long touchdown. Ahhhh!

NFL Football Fan Question Is this game being over hyped?

As a neutral (well Jets fan) for this one I am excited about the prospect of one of these teams ending up losing for a change! And I have to say I think it will be Randy Moss and cheating Bill Belichick that will be wearing the frowns on Sunday. Colts have more speed on defence.

  2. Bryan says:

Pat’s VS. Colts will be a great game. No Doubt. Pat’s will win; too many weapons.

  3. James says:

    I Bet,
Put me with you. Going with the Colts.
Wow, Pats are in your division?
Much more fun to be in the North with my Lions. Some years all the teams are bad! :)
