Coming Soon: “Imagine That”

Eddie Murphy returns to the big screen this Friday in Imagine That. According IMDb, the film is about a “financial executive (Murphy) who can’t stop his career downspiral [and] is invited into his daughter’s imaginary world, where solutions to his problems await.”
That could be interesting if it’s done right. In addition to Murphy, the cast is rounded out by Thomas Haden Church, Vanessa Williams. I also noticed that the cast includes Bobb’e J. Thompson who was hilarious in Role Models so I am optimistic about what he will add to the film.
There’s a common theme going on in Hollywood right now since I’m seeing more and more movies about stressed out, Blackberry-addicted parents who end up learning valuable life lessons from their children. It’s hard because, in the midst of the recession, parents are having to work harder than ever to make ends meet and keep their jobs. I agree that we need to think outside of the box and spend more time with our families but sometimes these movies end up making mothers and fathers feel horrible about being away from their children. I will still give it a chance, though.
The early reviews have not been overly promising but the trailer looks okay. Check it out and judge for yourself:
