Commission Says US Laws Violate WTO

March 27, 2009 by Kris Jones

A European Commission has concluded that the U.S. act to block financial institutions from sending payments to online gambling companies violates the World Trade Organization’s rules for international trade.  This represents yet another push towards the legalization of online payment for banks in the United States.

Also applying appressure is one economic hurricane that we have going on right now.  In this writer’s opinion it is only a matter of time before the “moral righteousness” that swept the bill into place will fall in favor of the reality – where most of us happen to live.  The reality is the United States needs cash in the worst way and taxation on gambling is certainly one conduit to gather an income source.

The irony is of course that the lotto is perfectly fine and state sponsored, but something that actually requires skill and thought such as poker is frowned upon by our government.  See EU Commission says US violated WTO for the full story.
