Congratulations to Dan Farber, new Editor in Chief for CNET

I sent my personal congratulations to Dan earlier today, but I had to post about this news as well.  If you haven’t heard yet, Dan Farber has been tapped to replace Jai Singh as editor in chief of CNET.  This is a bit from his last post at ZDNet today:

I’ve worked on ZDNet for more than a decade, from its initial development as a comprehensive tech portal to its integration (via acquisition in October 2000) with CNET, through the bubble and into the blogging era.

We have an outstanding management team in place to carry on for another decade–in addition to Larry and ZDNet managing editor David Grober, Stephen Howard-Sarin, John Potter, Josh Taylor, Marc Mendell and their respective teams are top notch.

And, most importantly we have an outstanding, smart and passionate team of bloggers in our network who bring ZDNet to life every day.

I will occasionally guest post on BTL, but for now look for my blog soon on News.com.

And now, a hand off to Larry Dignan… Source: Transition time at ZDNet | Between the Lines | ZDNet.com

Dan Farber at DEMO 2008 I don’t remember when I met Dan in person for the first time, but I’ve been reading him religiously for a long time.

While a few folks have talked about CNET not being the site it used to be or maybe even irrelevant in today’s new media, I disagree.

I see CNET as being the “sober second thought” or not first but smarter kind of news.  I’ve found CNET to also carry some of the just basic, interesting stuff that bloggers seem to miss and ignore.  Even a new update or app is cool, especially that aren’t passing the Web 2.0 coolness test.  Not everything has to be sexy to be useful.

So I wish Dan the best and can’t wait to see how he shakes up the place.
