COST EFFICIENT GROCERY-ING 4: Follow the Food Pyramid
In these times of weekly price increases, you have to watch all your expenses very closely. A great portion of your grocery budget is for food. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on food, might as well make it nutritious, what makes for a balanced diet, and what keeps you healthy.
Some thumbrules:
Nutrition facts on the label will help you determine what is good for you.
If the label says “low fat,” check if it is also “low sodium.
Low-fat food best if < 3 grams per serving.
Sugar content best if < 10 grams per serving.
Breads & cereals best if > 2 grams per serving.
This optimizes your food money, saves you from unnecessary future medical expenses, and keeps your Balance Sheet for Living in good shape.
