(FranchisePick.Com) The lively dispute between Anthony “Cousin Vinny” Agnello and Subway franchisor Doctor’s Associates, Inc. holds important lessons for both franchisors and prospective franchisees.
Prospective franchisees: If you are a maverick and a rulebreaker, don’t buy a franchise.
Franchisors: If your prospect is a maverick and a rulebreaker, don’t award him a franchise. Especially if he’s a pimp and strip club operator with “an arrest record that stretches from here to Timbuktu.”

Wow! I thought franchise owners did background checks before giving people a store and expecting them to manage the overall brand!

I’m not sure how they missed this one. There are places on the form for criminal offenses, arrests, etc. I’m sure someone heard about it. From what I hear, Subway is usually pretty diligent.
I don’t think they’re hurting for franchisees. Domestically they added about 900 new franchisees last year.
