Current IPL Standings and Interesting What-ifs

I promised that I would come up with a detailed analysis of the possibilities in the IPL as of now. I am only considering the five teams which are already not out and which are already not in. I am going to go team by team, give a little insight and dare to predict their remaining matches in order to try to find out who would qualify for the semis. Take a look at the points table:image

So, considering the teams:

Kings XI Punjab:

They are looking set to qualify as they have matches against Deccan, Kolkata and Rajasthan. Even if they lose all three(interesting), it would benefit just Kolkata and that too not much who are already almost out. So, if this is the case, then the points table would be like:image

No change yet.

Chennai Superkings

They are pretty comfortable, though the loss to Bangalore would have hurt. Need new momentum. Got matches against Rajasthan and Deccan. Assuming they beat Deccan and lose to Rajasthan:image

Still no change!

Mumbai Indians

The tricky bit begins now! They have matches against Delhi, Rajasthan and Bangalore. Assuming Delhi and Rajasthan Beat them and they beat Bangalore:

Kolkata Knightriders and Delhi Daredevils

Just one match left between then and if Delhi wins it:

Which clearly means that Punjab, Chennai and Delhi qualify.

BUT, if Kolkata Beat Delhi Tonight, it along with Mumbai and Delhi would be at 14 points each….NRR comes in and guess what? Its Sehwag vs Sanath! Who scored faster. Lets see how the IPL pans out.

  1. Thanks for your nice analysis.
Rajasthan and Punjab have already confirmed their place in the semi final. Now, only two places are left. Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi are seemingly in the race of reaching semi final. At this moment, Chennai and Mumbai seem to be favorite, but still Delhi has a chance if they can defeat Mumbai on 24 May, which would create the pressure on Chennai, who have matches with Rajasthan and Deccan Chargers.

To me, Mumbai is going to reach the semi final, and either Delhi or Chennai will follow them.

    that was some analysis brother…

the match got washed out yesterday and KKR seem out of contention now. Delhi need to win their last game against mumbai and hope that mumbai loses another one…
