“Curse of the Bambino” Check to Go on Sale

Well, it’s not just any check and you can’t actually cash it, because it was endorsed in 1922 by then-Red Sox owner Harry Frazee.

It was part of a transaction for some guy named George Herman Ruth who was sent to play for some team in New York.

Yes indeed, you can own a part of Red Sox history, though you might be opening yourself up to an 86-year curse.

The check reflects the third installment of the deal that sent Babe Ruth to the Bronx Bombers and kicked off a still-hot-thanks-in-part-to-the-Steinbrenners rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees.

If you’re not ready to open your wallet when the check hits the auction block May 29, you can always put it on your Wish List for Santa: Another check from the transaction will go on sale in December.
