First Tiger Woods needs to have season-ending surgery, and now the bad news has spread to Red Sox Nation: Pitcher Curt Schilling announced on WEEI Sports Radio (audio interview here) this morning that he will have shoulder surgery Monday and will be out for the rest of the season.
Big shout out to reader Bacchus for giving us the heads-up. . . even if we are sorry to hear that one of our fave Sox might have thrown his last MLB fastball.

Is it season ending or is it career ending?
I’m not sure I’m buying that this is even a concern for the Red Sox at this point.
Then again, he’s not my favourite and never has been.
Definitely season-ending, but no one’s saying anything for certain about career-ending one way or the other.
As for the Red Sox, it’s unlikely that they expected him to come back to 100% this season anyway and (presumably) planned accordingly.
I can’t lie. As a lifelong Yanks fan, the disappearence of one Curt Schilling is a great thing.
And it makes me hate Boston LESS! So everyone wins.
We’ll overlook the fact that Andy is a New England native and focus on the positive here. Who says Sox and Yanks fans can’t get along?
