CURVES FOR WOMEN: Successful Franchise Owner Renews for 10 More Years

While most of the Curves for Women franchise news of late has been pretty depressing, the owner of the Lockport, N.Y. club is definitely seeing the water-bottle as half-full.
Curves franchise owner Sally Reid is celebrating the completion of her 10-year franchise agreement by moving into a higher profile location… and signing up for another 10 years.
For Reid it’s location, location, location. And parking, parking, parking.
According to a story by Joe Olenick in the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal, Reid first opened her Lockport Curves for Women franchise 10 years ago. After outgrowing her first location, she moved her club into a local strip center, Lockport Plaza. For the past two years, Reid has been eyeing a prominent corner location in downtown Lockport, but hesitated because of parking concerns. When the building next door was razed to create a private parking lot, she seized the opportunity to relocate to the corner of Walnut and Washburn streets in Lockport.
“Said Reed: ““It’s just phenomenal… I liked the fact this is such an up-and-coming area. It’s constant exposure because of the newness of everything that is here.”
“I felt comfortable with the owners and the integrity of the company”
Prior to opening her Curves for Women club, Reid ran the Fitness Palace fitness center for 15 years. She initially chose Curves in part because she “felt comfortable with the owners and the integrity of the company”
She obviously feels the same way, as she has signed a 10 year franchise renewal and plans to continue to build her Curves for Women franchise.
Women who are thinking about joining the Lockport Curves should call 433-3398 to set up an appointment and a free visit.

Is it true? Is it possible that Howard actually may have over looked a territory that he could have sold more Curves? “Yes Virginia there Santa Claus”, and it is possible that a territory has slipped passed Howard’s, “Curves Maximization Territorial Mapping Department”. That statistical overlook rate as about the same as the possibility of a birth of a two-headed snail, which is remote, yet statistically possible.
For those of you who are unfamiliar where Lockport, NY is located. The town is about twenty miles east of the Canadian border and twenty-five miles northeast of Buffalo, NY. The town is sandwiched in by neighboring backwater towns of Hickory Corners to the north and Shooktown to the south. Lockport has a population of about 22, 000 with the outlaying towns with much smaller populations.
I really do not have much knowledge of Lockport’s economy. But why she moved into what seems to be a more expensive location is questionable to me giving the state of the economy. I have seen other owners do this (trade up in rental space) with the end result of a business failure. I speculate that Sally is a working owner, which helps immensely. However, she is also very ignorant of the ethics of Curves which I base that upon her statement of, “She initially chose Curves in part because she “felt comfortable with the owners and the integrity of the company”. I do wish Sally luck as she will need it given the current state of the economy. If she is successful in the next three years it will probably because she is a good business woman, she has guts or is naïve (not sure which at this point) and that Curves has left her alone (meaning Curves has not oversold in the area and has allowed her operate outside the framework of what Curves normally mandates.)
Lets check in with Sally in about six months, shall we?
Hi Sally,
I jut called curves international and guess what.
Because of your success they just sold another franchise in your area that will be opening after the first of the year. Isn’t that just dandy. Maybe now you will understand what most of us owners have been going through. Good luck as I’m sure you are going to need it. What that you say? Your area is protected in your franchise agreement. Better read it again as you are wrong as they have the right to sell it and believe me they can, they will and in you case they already did. Be sure to let us know how you are doing at the end of Feb 09.
