Dallas Police Pull a Gun on Ryan Moats

Police in Dallas are apologizing for one of their offices pulling out a gun in front of a hospital when they pulled over 26-year old Ryan Moats. Moats is a running back in the NFL, and was headed to the hospital to see his dying mother-in-law. He ran a stop light, and when the cop pulled him over he gave Moats the third degree.

Normally, I’d say the whole “gotta get to the hospital” is a worn out excuse, except that this time the guy was really at the hospital! It was obvious he wasn’t lying.

Moats’ wife, Tamishia, said the police officer was ” pointing a gun at me as soon as I got out of the car. It was the weirdest feeling because I’ve never had a gun pointed at me before under those circumstances.”

It seems that Moats handled himself well throughout the whole thing. He decided to put his hands on the car where the officer could see them right away. “He didn’t ask me to put my hands on the car. I just did it to try to protect myself. I was pleading with him.”

He took his time writing a ticket and continued to tell Moats that he could arrest him if he wanted to. Check out the video of the whole incident here. Apparently the officer is on administrative leave now.

A simple apology to Mr. & Mrs. Moats from the Chief is not good enough. Where is Mr. Powell’s public apology for his heinous behavior!?! Mr. Powell abused his authority and took away critical time that can never be returned. What is worse is that Officer Powell kept the dying mother in law from having the comfort of both the Moats at her side during her passing. I am disgusted beyond belief. It probably does come down to a race thing, although I’m white and I’ve been pulled over on my way to work as an RN (speeding) at least twice for emergencies at work, and received tickets in both instances!

True. It wasn’t so much that he got pulled over. It was the way the officer handled things after he did. Now I’ve heard that this officer has quit the force. What a terrible incident for everyone involved.

  3. Yes, he should have let them go once the Hospital personnel confirmed his story and maybe…maybe followed up later. But again I have to ask the question, would this have made the news if it wasn’t Ryan Moats or a celebrity in general?
