Dan Marino makes Fantasy Football List of Great Players, Ditka not invited – Part I

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Michael Fabiano of NFL.com has come up with a great idea. The Fantasy Football Hall of Fame.

Same rule, the player has to be out of football for five years.

You have to check this list out, because to be the most knowledgeable fan, you have to know these players.

Number 1 is Dan Marino quarterback of the Miami Dolphins

Dan Marino

The most talented and prolific quarterback to ever grace the gridiron, Marino finished his illustrious career with an NFL record 61,361 passing yards, 420 passing touchdowns and nine rushing touchdowns. He recorded 4,000-plus yards an incredible six times, including a record 5,084 yards in 1984, and tossed 20-plus touchdowns 12 times in 17 seasons. His 4,554 fantasy points is close to 600 more than his closest competition, Fran Tarkenton. source

Check out Marino’s 2nd year in the league.

The following year, Marino would have one of the greatest statistical seasons in NFL history. In a year where Marino was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player, he would break six NFL season passing records including the records for most TD passes (48) in a season (since broken by Peyton Manning) and most passing yards (5,084) in a season. Miami’s passing attack would propel the Dolphins to a 14-2 regular season record and secure them home field advantage in the playoffs, where they avenged their playoff loss the previous season to Seattle and defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC title game. source

The knock on Dan is that he never won a Super Bowl, losing to the 49ers with Joe Montana in his only try.

Number 2 is Fran Tarkenton, quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings and NY Giants

Fran Tarkenton

Tarkenton, who led the Vikings to three Super Bowl appearances, led the NFL in completions (3,686), passing yards (47,003) and touchdowns (342) at the time of his retirement in 1978. As effective a runner as he was a passer, Fran the Man finished with 3,674 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns and was one of the NFL’s first duel threats at the position. His 3,959 fantasy points made him a stud for his time. source

Wow, that brings back memories as Fran was the original scrambling quarterback. Ouch, he is scrambling away from Lions defenders in my memory and throwing a touchdown. Stop!

Once again, the knock on Fran is 3 Super Bowls, but no championships. You just do not want to be the Charles Barkley of the NFL.

Two of the greatest quarterbacks ever and now in the Michael Fabiano Fantasy Football Hall of Fame!

NFL Football Fan Question Did you ever get to see Fran or Dan?
