The Detroit Free Press has a fun comparison interview between Daniel and Josh Bullocks. The twins were born a minute apart, but drafted at the number 40 slot and year apart.
The Lions have struggled at safety for several years and unlike years ago, the safety is often the most important player on the defense. With modern day offenses throwing zillions of passes, the safety has both run and pass responsibility and is seemingly involved in every play. Modern day safeties are no longer just football centerfielders. They have to be everywhere; consequently they must be strong, big, and fast.
Daniel Bullocks factoid The NFL.com draft preview lists Daniel at 6′ and 213 pounds and 4.49 speed. There you have it, size and speed!
After a 1 day holdout, Daniel inked a 4 year deal. Here is what the Detroit Lions web site had to say
In case Lions fans are wondering what they have received as the second round draft pick – he is a leader. The former Nebraska star co-captained a defense that led the nation in sacks and tackles for loss as a senior in 2005. source
So, we know the pedigree is there and that is important. The Nebraska web site had this to say.
After Josh’s departure, Daniel stepped forward into a leadership role as a senior and was a co-captain for the 2005 season. source
Hopefully, this is a hint at some leadership abilities.
He had 22 pass breakups to become the Cornhusker all-time leader for pass breakups by a safety. This seems to indicate some ball hawking skills. The whole package appears to be there.
Fan Question Can Daniel Bullocks get the job done? Will the Lion’s defense make some marked improvements this year?
