Dario Minieri

Watching the new episodes of the WSOP last night, I was pretty entertained watching Hendon Mob member Dario Minieri donking off his chips trying to win every single pot just by raising and reraising no matter how clear it became to the table that he hardly ever had a hand. Sick to see him get lucky and not bust out when he ended up all in with KQ high and an Ace on the board and got called by a straight flush draw. The look on his face when he got called by a draw, even with his awful hand, was priceless. I was sad to see him regain the chip leadership by the end of the show, once again showing that it pays to be a donk.

Apparently, though, the guy must be a pretty decent player considering his other achievements, including winning enough Party Poker points to cash in for a Porsche that he can’t drive.

The second episode promised to be much more fun to watch with Gus Hansen, Scotty Nguyen and Daniel Alaei all at the featured table, though the play stayed pretty standard and uneventful.

I wish the people in charge of poker programming would do a better job putting on entertaining footage. If more shows were like High Stakes Poker and the World Poker Tour, there’d be a lot more quality play to watch, but for the most part it just serves as time filler.
