Davis skates to Gold and into History!

Labeled as ‘Selfish’ and blamed for America’s elimination from the Speedskating Team Pursuit event, tonight Shani Davis became the first African American to win Gold at the 1,000m Speedskating event (1 minute 8.89 seconds).

Teammate Joey Cheek got the Silver (1 minute 9.16 seconds) while Erben Wennemars of the Netherlands, the Bronze (1 minute 9.32 seconds).
The U.S. 1-2 finish is the first for the country since Kenneth Henry and Don McDermott did it back in 1952.
In the post-event interview, Davis was surprisingly terse (and even appeared nonchalant), leaving many to speculate that there might be some acrimony among the American Speedskaters.
We just hope that Davis’ victory will vindicate him and bring closure for his teammates.
