Dealerships Get Cash for Clunkers Extension

Due to website problems, the federal government has given car dealerships an extension for inputting their “Cash for Clunkers” paperwork. Originally, the deadline was Monday at 8:00 PM EST. However, the technical difficulties have forced the feds to push the deadline back to noon on Tuesday.
This news should make many dealerships happy. Even before the website problems, the Nationals Automobile Dealers Association was calling for an extension. While the deadline is currently noon, government officials say they may push it back even further if the problems persist.
Even though dealers received an extension, the “Cash for Clunkers” program has ended for consumers. No more rebates will be offered at this point and it doesn’t sound like “Cash for Clunkers” will be returning any time soon.
When all is said and done, most experts believe that most (if not all) of the $3 billion that the federal government pumped into the “Cash for Clunkers” program will have been used.
It will be very interesting to see if the automobile industry will continue to see customers purchasing new customers or if the end of the “Cash for Clunkers” program will lead to customers tightening their purse strings once again.
