Just wanted to take a moment to comment on this article. First off, I agree with some of the comments Allison made. Although I have to wonder why Petrino has received such a bashing across the country. Almost every coach has played this game before (saying they aren't leaving then leaving, etc) so I don't see why this situation is a whole lot different than many others. I haven't heard near the bashing that Petrino has gotten when Bob Knight quit his team with several games left in the schedule. And his team had a real shot at an NCAA tournament spot. Which is worse, leaving a team that has no chance at the post season or one that has a great chance at making it. ESPN decided to just kill Petrino but what did they do with Bob Knight? HIRED HIM! That makes no sense at all. He should have been crucified just the same if that was their stance on the subject. But they saw $ and thought that he would be a great addition to the team. I'm not totally sticking up for Petrino, I just think that if we looked over the history of coaching, that his story has been written before and will be again. It's a business and we aren't able to see the behind-the-scenes that make alot of the decisions sound terribly immoral. So, although I agree that this profession has become so cut throat, I think we should look across the board and not pick on just one or two coaches who maybe made a bad move.
