Dear Daughters: Thanks So Much for Your Generous Gift of Future Tax Payments

Kelly Phillips Erb at taxgirl responded to a meme about the upcoming federal rebates by tagging me, among other b5media bloggers, to answer a couple of questions:

  1. If you could do whatever you wanted, how would YOU spend your $600?
  2. Is that the same or different from how you actually plan spend it?

Hmm. How much would it cost to mount a comprehensive communications campaign telling the Bush administration to quit trying to buy my affection and instead engage in responsible governing?

Okay, that aside, here we go:

For 600 bucks, I’d say a train ride to New York, a couple of nights in a decent hotel for me and my wife, and a truly mindblowing dinner at one of Manhattan’s many great dining establishments.

We have plans for the house: Conversion of a side porch into a new office for yours truly and replacement of our aging deck this spring; a second-floor addition and a new kitchen in the years to come. So in our case, at least, since my family lives within its means, we’ll be doing our part to stimulate the economy by giving the check to our contractor instead of saving it up for retirement. Although considering that this rebate really does nothing more than add to the already enormous debt that my two girls will face when it’s their turn to pay Uncle Sam, ethically I should put it away for them, right?

My turn to tag: Sean Kelly at Franchise Pick, David Zinger and Phil Gerbyshak at Slacker Manager, Susan Gunelius at Brandcurve, Ali Kriscenski at Greener Assets, Miki Saxon at Leadership Turn, and Bob Turek at Project Management 411, you’re it! | 501(c)
