Recently, a new website hit the Internet to help companies in the UK make money from unused desks in their offices. Called Desk Space Genie, this website will connect businesses with empty offices to freelancers or small business owners who don’t want to rent an entire office, but want a place away from their home to work.
Says Ciaron Dunne of Desk Space Genie in the company’s press release:
The supply has been more than matched by demand, as the past decade has seen an explosion in remote working due to improvements in communications and an increased reliance on freelancers and contractors, particularly in the creative and IT industries. Typical deskers include web designers, translators, architects, consultants, and others from professions where day-to-day location is less important.
It doesn’t cost anything for a business to list a desk for rent on the Desk Space Genie website. Business owners can use the small rents to pay for office costs, and some are reporting that the fresh faces in the office have actually contributed to the businesses, so this is a networking tool as well.
