Detroit 2009 Auto Show Predicted To Be Low-Key Affair

In Effort To Trim Costs, Show To Be Moved From Cobo Center To Dirt Lot Downtown

Who says Detroit doesn’t have its finger on the pulse of the American car buyer? Reflecting a more sober buying mood, this year’s annual North American International Auto Show will feature a more frugal presentation than past years.

Among this years changes: the show will be held on a dirt lot in downtown Detroit and car show girls will be recruited exclusively from the Shady Oaks Old Age Home.

“I’m hoping to make the cut,” gushed Gertie Parkinson, “I’m hoping my experience makes up for the fact that I have to use a walker in order to stand for long periods of time.” Gertie was one of the first car show girls back when cars still had to be cranked to start the engine.

“Back then,” said Gertie, “You not only had to be a real ‘looker,’ you had to be strong enough to turn the engine over.”

Gone, too, this year is the traditional lavish entertainment provided by stars such as Christina Aguillera and rapper Jay-Z. This year’s show will include a toe-tapping performance by the Starland Vocal Band and a special guest appearance by William Daniels, the voice of K.I.T.T. on the original Knight Rider series.

Amazingly, good tickets are still available.
